The Reenactment of History

The pastor came in the bathroom and told us that the killings were happening more frequently. The Hutus were killing any Tutsis they saw. Their goal was to kill all Tutsis. I was devastated. Especially when I heard that the Hutus were burning down the churches, which the government told all Tutsis to go for protection. I then thought of my family and my brothers and Augustine who were forced to leave the pastors house. I did not know what to do. I was scared. Again, I turned to God. I prayed more and more. Pastor Murinzi said that he has lived through many “wars” against the two tribes, but this was much worse. This was a kind of killing spree. The genocide would be finished when all Tutsis, “cockroaches”, were exterminated.
